Sport at Beechwood

We encourage all of our pupils to participate in a wide variety of sporting experiences, covering ball skills, body management, teamwork and individual tasks.

Above all, the emphasis is always on fun and participation. We believe that this creates the best environment for the individual to improve.

Physical Education is also a popular and successful examination subject for study at GCSE.

Football for Girls

Our national sport received some additional focus this term, as Beechwood girls were treated to training sessions from professional football coach, Ian Wright. Mr Wright, from Ridgeway Football Club, will take PE lessons for Year 7 and 8 girls throughout the season.

“We hope that this will lead to an increase in the interest in football, with more inter-school matches taking place” said Carol Mitchell, Head of PE.

Ian will also be spotting talent; he is keen to welcome any interested pupils to participate at Ridgeway.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Beechwood offers a full programme of weekday and weekend activities which include art club, chess club, drama club, debating and public speaking, dance club, badminton, volleyball and sports coaching sessions, and much more.

Tutors ensure that all pupils have a healthy balance of activities, study and leisure.

Ski Trip

On top of the world!
The Ski Trip is an annual event open to pupils in Years 5 - 10, which takes place in the Easter holidays.

Next year, the venue will again be at La Thuile in the Aosta Valley, Italy, with around 40 pupils scheduled to take part.

Experienced trainers enable skiers to work for 1* to 5* Interski badges.

"Beautiful blue skies, heaps of snow and an abundance of laughter made this an unforgettable experience."

"It was much more fun than just skiing"

"The Ski Trip was an exciting and exhilarating experience filled with skiing, excessive pizza and pasta, ice skating, some regrettable shapes on the dance floor, tubing, games and the traditional lemon jousting."

"Big thanks are owed to all staff and parents, particularly Mrs Mitchell, for a brilliant trip!"
Jo, Nicole, Vanessa and Niona
