Pastoral Care

PASTORAL STRUCTURE
Form Tutor
Each girl is allocated to a Form Tutor, who takes responsibility for the direct supervision of her academic progress and social development. The Form Tutor is the first point of contact for any parent who has concerns or a query regarding a pupil’s needs, either academically or socially.

Divisions
The school is divided into Divisions: Junior Division, Years 7, 8 and 9; Middle Division, Years 10 and 11; Senior Division, Years 12 and 13. The Head of Division has an overview of the progress and development of every pupil in that Division. The Head of Division can deal with more serious problems or concerns that the Form Tutor is unable to address.

The Deputy Head has overall responsibility for the pastoral care of all the pupils in the school. Parents should feel free to discuss serious issues directly with her.

Ultimately, the Head is responsible for all matters in the school and is always happy to talk to parents about any issue that cannot be addressed or resolved by alternative means.

HOUSE SYSTEM
Pupils are placed in a House, lead by a Sixth Form House Captain and a member of staff, as Head of House. House activities include competitions and charitable fund-raising, organised during regular House Meetings.

The four Houses are named after the places traditionally associated with four female saints: Assisi (St Clare), Avila (St Teresa), Kildare (St Brigid) and Lima (St Rose).

REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS
House Points are awarded to encourage and reward good work or improvement, extra effort and good behaviour. Pupils can gain Bronze, Silver or Gold Commendation Certificates depending on the number of House Points gained.

Minus House Points are used to encourage better work habits and good behaviour. They are issued for persistently late homework, or lack of effort, or for behaviour that persistently breaches the Beechwood Code.  Accumulating Minus House Points could result in a detention from the Deputy Head.
