Christmas Tree Hunt

On Sunday the 28th of November, a group of boarders went to Wilderness Wood with Dr Grant and Ms Wallens to choose and chop a Christmas Tree for the Conservatory.

Upon arrival we reluctantly walked past the invitingly warm café, yet once armed with gloves, Wellington boots and a hack saw, we ventured through the forest and past the pre-cut trees to the DIY field further down. Then the search for a 6ft, white-tagged tree began. It wasn't easy. As soon as we split up we became outnumbered, and were soon distracted by adorable baby firs and impressive decorated giants. However, with the influential words of Ms Wallens ringing through our ears, we soon regrouped and the hunt recommenced. Although deceived at times, we soon found hope amongst the branches as we stumbled across a handsome 6ft, white-tagged Norway Spruce called Bartholomew. However, upon closer scrutiny our smiles were extinguished as we noticed his limp limbs and yellow spindles. Deflated, we bid our farewells to Bartholomew and departed.

We slowly picked through the trees, all chances shattered by them being too short, too weak or too young. However, on our way back, admitting defeat, fate directed us to a fine evergreen, standing strong amongst the failures. With a resounding gasp of joy, our spirits elated as we set our eyes upon Demetrious, our soon to be conservatory Christmas tree. Dr Grant bravely bared the burden of the saw, and in true lumberjack style, released Demetrious from ground's grasp. Triumphant, we carried him through the field, past wilting Bartholomew and up to HQ where we were rewarded with hot chocolates and satisfaction.
