International Exchange Programme
Beechwood is part of the worldwide Sacred Heart Foundation. We are very fortunate that, through this network of schools, we have been able to establish an international exchange programme.
Our programme is designed to enable students in Year 10 to experience another culture and in some cases another language, at first hand.

We piloted the scheme very successfully during the last academic year with our Montreal link school and this academic year we propose to extend the programme to include six schools.
The programme involves a two-week, two-way exchange. Our aim is that students from overseas will spend two weeks during the Autumn Term at Beechwood, the Beechwood students exchanging in the Spring Term.
As the students will exchange on a reciprocal basis, living either as part of the family or part of the boarding community, the only costs involved will be air fares or train fares, pocket money and insurance.

Austrian Exchange
Anja and Hari lead the way
The first of our Year 10 Sacred Heart exchanges took place just before half-term. This academic year pupils in Year 10 will be participating in exchanges with Sacred Heart schools in Nantes, Montreal, Louisiana & Vienna.
Two weeks ago Anja Westdelund arrived at Heathrow airport to embark on an exchange and to sample our English way of life. The first week was spent going to school but at half-term we went to London for shopping, Madame Tussauds, and to see the show Chicago which we both enjoyed immensely. Later in the week we drove down to the coast to stay in an old country house for 3 days. Anja’s English improved and my German lessons seemed easier. I am looking forward to staying in Austria and going skiing.

Beechwood goes global
This year saw four very successful exchanges, by some of our Year 10 pupils, with Sacred Heart Schools on two continents. Katie Mai went to Montreal in Canada, Natasha to Grand Coteau in Louisiana USA, Hari to Vienna and Imogen to Nantes.
All the girls and their exchange partners, who visited us here at Beechwood, thoroughly enjoyed finding out about different cultures, foods and school customs and also felt that they had made friends for life.
Next year the new Year 10 will have the same opportunities and in addition we will be adding Spanish schools to our list.
