After displays and picnics on the lawn in brilliant sunshine, pupils, parents and guests moved to the Auditorium for speeches and prize-giving. Our guest of honour this year was Cathy Rubin. 

Cathy Rubin was born in Georgetown, Guyana and was a pupil at Beechwood from 1970 to 1976. She then went on to study at Worcester University and held various marketing positions in companies including ITC Film Entertainment, EMI Films, RCA/Columbia Pictures.

Cathy is a child and family health advocate, an author of children's books and non-fiction books, and a producer of factual films. Her fiction books Eleanor, Ellatony, Ellencake and Me and Ellie: The Perfect Dress For Me both won numerous children's book awards. Her most recent book The Real Alice in Wonderland-A Role Model for the Ages was written with the help of her daughter Gabriella. She is also producing a documentary about the life of Alice Liddell, who was the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Alice adventures.

Cathy currently lives in New York City and Fairfield, Connecticut. She has two children Gabriella Rose who is a Freshman at Bard College, and James in 10th Grade at Dwight International School NYC.
