Key Stage 2
The work in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 - 6) builds on the foundations of Key Stage 1, with subjects being developed beyond the basic skill level. All subjects are timetabled separately and are taught by either the form teacher or increasingly by subject specialists, either from within the Preparatory School or from the Senior School, so aiding a smooth transition from primary to secondary education.
A programme of outings, an outdoor education programme, theme days and visiting experts enhance the learning experience of our pupils by bringing variety and depth to the curriculum.
EDUCATIONAL OUTINGS
Trip to Hampton Court
On Wednesday Year 4 went to Hampton Court on a school trip. We were very excited when we got on the coach. It was a long journey but we finally got there. We looked at all the buildings and saw where archaeologists were, went in lovely gardens and had fun in the maze but got terribly lost. We went to the kitchens and found out that only the rich had sugar which they ate lots of. Staff in the kitchen had to cook for 600-1000 people. Thanks to Mrs Burton for a very nice day out.

Year 5 Trip to Dickens World
On 29 April, Year 5 went to Dickens World in Chatham. We were very excited and when we arrived it looked as if we had travelled back to Victorian times. Most of us liked the Boat Ride the best, where you went backwards really fast and got loads of water on you! We had an educational talk with Gemma about Victorian clothes which was very interesting. We went to the Haunted House where we were told about some of the characters in Dickens" stories. In Peggoty's boathouse we had to put on funny glasses to watch the 4D show. We enjoyed our day and found out a lot about Charles Dickens. Velvet Brown
Imperial War Museum Trip for Year 6
On Thursday, 28 February, Year 6's bags were packed and we were ready and raring to go. After a long coach journey we finally arrived at the Imperial War Museum and couldn"t wait to get inside.
We began with the 1940's house. We had lunch by the second world war cannons which were huge. After our delicious lunch we went to the large exhibit area and looked at all the tanks, rockets and planes. The shop offered a range of interesting gifts.
For the afternoon we were split into two groups. Group 1 went to a cookery room and made some carrot cookies. The other group did some drama then we swapped over.
Thank you to Mrs Burton for organising the trip.

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich
On a glorious sunny morning Year 5 set out to visit The Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Our lives were enriched by the the knowledge, expertise, enthusiasm and humour of Greg, a real live astronomer. Greg not only explained the complexities of our solar system, but also answered all of the children's burning questions with enviable ease. We then went on to explore our solar system with a virtual tour in the Peter Harrison Planetarium. Here, the latest technology (and John, another real live astronomer) enabled us to explore the daytime and night-time sky and the stunning wonders of the solar system. This was definitely a very inspiring day.
War Time Diet for Year 6

We sampled corned beef and onion pie, oat and syrup biscuits, stoneground bread, flapjack, carrot cookies and scones. Well done and thank you to all our young chefs who brought flavour into our History lessons.

| Serious sketching at the British Museum |
The children were truly amazed to see real Egyptian mummies, Roman, Celtic and the Sutton Hoo treasures. They also enjoyed and interesting workshop about the mummies.
Did you know that there are many copies of the Rosetta Stone but the one in Room 4 is the genuine one. We are so lucky to have the British Museum and entrance is still free!
