Learning Development
In the Learning Development Department our aim is to ensure that every child is helped to achieve their full potential; we liaise with all parts of the school to ensure that the educational needs of all pupils are met.
This includes the needs of children at both ends of the learning spectrum; the Department identifies gifted and talented children, as well as those needing help with numeracy, literacy and social skills.

These pupils are then taught outside the classroom by learning support teachers. Sometimes they are removed from certain lessons, or where possible, they have lessons outside the normal timetable.
We do not have Learning Support Assistants in the classroom in the Senior School.
Prior to public examinations, learning support pupils are assessed to see whether the extra time allowed by examination boards might be beneficial.
Depending on the level of support needed, an extra supplement may be payable.
Gifted and Talented pupils
At Beechwood Sacred Heart we aim to provide appropriate education for all of our pupils. In the case of gifted and talented pupils we aim to identify their particular strengths as early as possible and then to provide them with every possible opportunity to develop their specific talents or abilities to the full.
The Learning Development department liaises with all departments to ensure that strategies are in place to meet the academic needs of these pupils.
