Religious Education

| Year 7 enjoy a visit to a Passion Play |
All major world religions are examined at different stages of each pupil's education and the spiritual life of every student is nurtured and developed throughout their time at Beechwood.
We employ a variety of techniques to encourage everyone to participate and to enjoy their RE lessons. Drama, art and, occasionally, dance are used to provide an opportunity to explore religious issues in a way that is both interesting and rewarding. All pupils in the Senior School take part in preparing and helping to present weekly Assemblies.
In Years 7 - 9 we begin with the history of Beechwood and the founder of the Sacred Heart Order, St. Madeleine Sophie, which is followed by the following topics:
- - The foundation of the early Christian Church
- - Key Christian figures
- - The Study of St. Mark's Gospel
- - An exploration of the Person of Jesus
- - An introduction to Judaism, Islam and a broad overview of other World Faiths.
RE is a popular subject for study at GCSE and A-level, equipping each student with the ability to approach life's issues from a number of different perspectives. The A-level in particular, prepares students for a variety of university courses as it develops their critical thinking skills and encourages independent research.
Church of Christ
On Monday, Year 8 were fortunate to be able to visit the Church of Christ in Tunbridge Wells. Paster Cliff Allen discussed with them the importance of baptism and how an adult baptism takes place. The pupils really enjoyed the opportunity to see a baptismal pool and asked some very thoughtful questions.
Trip to Rome
During half-term on our wonderful trip to Rome, we visited many historic sites, including the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Forum, St. Peter's Basilica and the beautiful Sistine Chapel.
