The poems were about ‘Home', the National theme. Some poems had been written by published poets, others by the pupils themselves.
Everyone who took part enjoyed the reading and reviewing of the poems. A lot of jelly beans were munched in the process too!
Homes (an example of a Year 7 poem)
A home can be a hut, a mansion or town house,
Only a family can make a home,
Without a family it's just a house.
Some home aren't loving and caring,
It doesn't matter whether you live in a hut or a mansion,
A happy family makes a home,
Never forget that,
A happy home is when children lay and laugh,
A sad home is when you hear your parents shout and cry,
And you don't know why,
Just remember your home,
Is it happy, is it sad?
A happy family makes a home,
Never forget that.
Poetry Glorious Poetry!
There was a food flavour to the Prep School's celebration of National Poetry Day on Thursday this week, when Year 5 read poems with a gastronomic theme to the rest of the school in assembly. Fish, chips, spaghetti, fruit, vegetables and meatballs and much more all got a mention as every pupil in Year 5 aired either poems they had written themselves or ones from other rather good poets too. It was a delicious start to the day!
