Activities

Sixth Formers join with students from other schools in the Young Enterprise scheme and in the Model United Nations General Assembly.

In addition, many students participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme, achieving silver or gold awards.

Some students organise clubs for juniors for example drama, dance, public speaking or debating. Sixth Formers also take responsibility by doing duties, including assisting with younger pupils as Form Prefects.

MUNGA

Last Friday a group of Sixth Formers took part in MUNGA at the Town Hall. The girls represented the UK and Australia and the topics were food, security, climate change and human rights. The debates were very interesting and were approached with enthusiasm from all the countries present. However, it all became too much for the USA and this led to their early departure from the assembly!

Thanks to Mrs Goodley and we look forward to MUNGA next year.

Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise is an inter-school activity in which groups of Sixth Formers collaborate to form companies with the aim of developing and marketing a product - to make a profit. The emphasis is on raising commercial awareness by using a "hands on" approach.

Getting the best out of Young Enterprise requires self motivation and commitment, qualities that are highly valued by Higher Education and Employers. An examination administered by OCR is taken at the end of the year.

2006- 2007
Amanda, Marjorie and Stephanie have in their own words "had a fabulous year" participating in The Young Enterprise Programme, run for Year 12 students throughout local schools.

Initially, nervous they integrated themselves, made new friends and acquired valuable business skills by forming companies named "Opaque" and "B"te Noir".  Opaque purchased seasonal hampers which required a high level of  creativity and teamwork. The highlight of the year was earning a fantastic profit of £500 and achieving the award of "The Best YE Company in West Kent". Opaque now goes forward to the regional finals.

2005 - 2006
Beechwood girls took part in two successful companies, and many of them gained distinction or credit in the final examination.
ANOVASTAR - produced jewellery. The company received an award for the best annual report.
OKONI - produced themed gift boxes for children's parties. One of our Sixth Formers won the award for the best after-dinner speech. Altogether - a very successful year for all the girls involved.
