Message from the Head of Sixth Form

Choosing your A-level subjects and in which school to study them are among the most important decisions you will ever have to make; decisions that will shape your future, affecting where and what you study at university, and the fulfilment of your career aspirations. At Beechwood you will benefit from small classes and dedicated subject staff, which will enable you to maximise your academic potential - but Beechwood also recognises your need to become more independent and to take responsibility.

Sixth Form tutors will be there for advice and guidance in all matters, and especially in preparing you for university entrance. You will be treated as adults, being listened to and forming part of the decision-making process on student issues at school. You will have freedom within the dress code and in the use of your study periods.  You may seek additional responsibility in the form of prefect or higher office, but most importantly Beechwood Sixth Form allows you to become the person you want to be.

Letter from a Sixth Former

A letter from a Sixth Former about life at Beechwood

Dear Prospective Sixth Former
The last two years at school are known to be the most memorable.  Here at Beechwood, it is time spent playing a vital role in our extended family.  Whether as a new student or a present pupil, Beechwood's welcoming community will ensure you"ll find your feet in no time.  But how is this unique atmosphere created?

Firstly, through all the new exciting experiences you are offered, exams are not everything! In the Sixth Form you will enjoy a range of activities, from exhibitions to etiquette dinners, which not only encourage integration, but also are opportunities to simply have fun. Secondly, each girl is encouraged to achieve her very best in all that she does, so that she leaves school with a real sense of achievement, ready to move on to Higher Education.

The prospect of moving away from home can be daunting for any Sixth Former. Here at Beechwood, we learn vital life skills, such as cooking on a budget, which will not only save us from endless meals of fairy cakes, but should also prove invaluable preparation for university life.......
