CRICKET TOUR TO SRI LANKA

LUKE BEAUMONT – year 8

In October half term Luke Beaumont, one of our sports scholars, was part of a tour to Sri Lanka in an under 13’s team made up of district and Kent players. During their time visiting Sri Lanka they played 4 matches against a very high quality opposition.

They won 2 games, tied 1 and narrowly lost in their final game to the national schools champions, who also fielded to under 15’s. A proud moment was when Luke was asked to captain in the first match where he was awarded man of the match for his 41 not out in a successful run chase and for his 2 wickets, 2 catches and a direct hit run out. A fantastic achievement for Luke and his family, who had travelled with the team.

Further strong performances saw Luke being awarded best batsman and best tourist for his hard work and outstanding all round contributions with bat, ball and in the field. Along with all the cricket the boys got to spend a day helping out for a local charity for the tsunami victims – the highlight of the tour.

Luke and his family did get a chance, between games, to visit some of Sri Lanka and they had a wonderful experience and especially enjoyed the elephant sanctuary.

Luke also plays rugby for Tunbridge Juddian’s under 13’s who are undefeated this year and was awarded coaches player of the year last season. He continues to play representative cricket and also plays for the men’s teams for Horsmonden.
