Sports and Activities

Prep children experience a wide variety of sports in Games and PE lessons. There is a extensive range of clubs at lunchtime and after school, and there are opportunities to compete in a House or School team. Swimming is taught from Reception: for this we visit a local swimming pool.

Pupils are provided with opportunities to experience a range of team and individual sports to help develop a broad base of interests. The emphasis is on fun, participation and team ethic and we look forward to regular fixtures against local schools, not just to test our skills but also to vote on the best match teas! Individual achievements recent years have included County Honours in cricket, rugby and chess.

Sports facilities include hockey and football pitches; netball, basketball and tennis courts; cricket nets; gymnasium, badminton and volleyball courts. We have recently installed a dedicated Multi Use Games Area which ensures we can play sport whatever the weather!

Prep PE Kit 2022-2023

We have a very busy clubs and activities programme taking place before school, at lunchtimes and after school. The list currently includes activities such as indoor cricket nets, dodgeball, camp building in the woods, drama (LAMDA), crafts and model making, brain-training, multi-sports incl. gymnastics, cross-country, rugby, netball and football, cookery – in our dedicated facility, art and gardening. Wherever possible, we look to add clubs where the pupils express sufficient interest.

Prep School Trips

Beechwood Prep is an active and vibrant community where educational and cultural trips are used both to enrich our curriculum and our pupils’ experience.

A large number of trips take place throughout the course of a year with recent events including: Nursery Ballet trip, Pre-Prep visit to the Hastings Sea Life Centre, Year 2 Trip to London visiting the Monument to the Great Fire, Year 3 and 4 Camp-in and Year 5 visit to the Houses of Parliament.

The Year 5 children take part in a residential PGL adventure holiday every year and Year 6 pupils traditionally finish their time at the Prep by also taking part in an activity holiday.
